How to Eliminate Kitchen Odours

There is nothing more unpleasant than a nasty kitchen odour.  Your kitchen is the place where you prepare delicious meals and where you spend time with your family.  At the very least, you want your kitchen to smell clean.  Here are some tips to help you eliminate any odours that are lingering in your kitchen:

Get rid of cooking smells.  It’s not surprising that a big source of kitchen odour is the food that you cook.  You can prevent that odour from travelling throughout your home by closing bedroom and closet doors while you are cooking.  It also helps to ventilate properly by using the vent over your stove, an air filter or even opening up a window.  If there is still an odour in the air, put some baking soda in a bowl and leave it out overnight.

Clean the trash can. Your kitchen trash can is another big culprit when it comes to bad smells. Take out your garbage at least every other day and wash out the bin once a week. To wash out the bin, pour vinegar into it and top it up with hot water.  Soak it for an hour and after you rinse, let it air dry.  You can even put orange peels in the bottom to give it a citrus scent, but make sure that you change the orange peels at least once a week.

Clean your fridge.  Your fridge is another common source of kitchen odours.  Empty the contents of your fridge and wipe it down with a solution of equal parts vinegar and water.  After your fridge is clean you can put in a box of baking soda or a sponge soaked with vanilla extract to keep it smelling fresh.

Address your sink.  Your sink may be holding onto some nasty odours which will eventually dissipate throughout your home.  To get rid of that awful smell, take out the stopper and remove any debris that is stuck in the drain.  Next pour a solution of baking soda and water down the drain.  Flush the solution and any remaining debris out with boiling water and your sink should smell fresh.

Try an odour treatment.  Fresh Start Odour Treatment can be used to disinfect and deodorize most hard surfaces in your kitchen killing bacteria like salmonella and ensuring safe food-prep areas.

It should not take much effort to get your kitchen smelling fresh, but if you run into an odour that you can’t seem to get rid of, call us, we can help!
